Letter from the Director
Dear friends,
In a year that was both heartbreaking and enraging, CHIPS Communities United saw the best our country has to offer. In union halls, city council meetings, and college campuses, we joined community members standing up and speaking out about decisions that impacted their daily lives. We stood shoulder to shoulder with moms demanding clean water and workers calling for good jobs. Alongside our coalition partners, we helped build worker power, strengthen the voices of local communities, and amplify local demands for a semiconductor industry that benefits all of us, not just shareholders and CEOs.
The world’s largest companies grew even larger in 2025, but a growing movement now calls for accountability from the tech giants. We know the AI boom doesn’t just occur in the cloud; it is rooted in mines, factories, and data centers.
It is built by workers who extract and refine minerals, synthesize chemicals, develop sophisticated equipment, and operate complex machinery.
The material origins of our technology are felt every day by residents who breathe air tainted by factory emissions, drink water laced with chemical residues, and pay electrical bills elevated by the energy demands of big tech companies.
CCU is honored to be part of this growing movement demanding the AI supply chain must be sustainable, equitable, and accountable to the people.
Thank you for standing with us.
