Community Groups Voice Concern over PFAS Discharges from GlobalFoundries Semiconductor Factory in Vermont
Newly analyzed data from GlobalFoundries in Vermont, revealed measurable levels of 17 different PFAS in wastewater. It is likely that other microchip factories release similar quantities, but Vermont is the only state that requires companies to report on PFAS in effluent.

Labor and Community Groups Criticize Environmental Review of CHIPS Act-Funded Projects
By issuing “findings of no significant impact” and failing to conduct full environmental impact statements on three projects with proposed CHIPS Act funding (TSMC’s Phoenix, Arizona facility; Intel’s Ocotillo factory in Chandler, Arizona; and Micron’s ID1 plant in Boise, Idaho), the Commerce Department is failing to document in sufficient detail the impacts of these large federal projects and missing an opportunity for environmental leadership. CCU has submitted public comment for each of these documents and calls for a full environmental review for each of the new projects to ensure the public understands the impacts.

Response to Draft Environmental Assessment for Micron's Boise ID1 Expansion
We do not believe that the draft Environmental Assessment adequately assesses the direct, indirect, or cumulative environmental impacts of the planned expansion of Micron’s Boise facility. It seems obvious that such a significant expansion, moving from research and development to high-volume manufacturing utilizing new production techniques, will have a significant environmental impact, and the environmental assessment bears this out, documenting significant increase in polluting air emissions, energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, toxic releases, environmental justice impacts, and socioeconomic impacts.
