Okay, so I’m a little late, but I wanted to sketch out a quick overview of CHIPS Communities United’s work in 2024. (Maybe you could think of this as a valentine from CCU, rather than an annual round-up!)
Until 2024, CHIPS Communities United was a steering committee of representatives from powerful organizations that met regularly, but we had no staff, no local organizers, no mailing list, and no wider coalition. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we now have a national infrastructure that is working in communities across the country to make sure new and expanding chip factories benefit everyone – workers, neighbors, and the local economy.
Although we didn’t get everything we wanted in the CHIPS and Science Act or its implementation, our work in 2024 persuaded the U.S. Commerce Department to strengthen the commitments and public reporting requirements of CHIPS Act recipients.
And we accomplished all of this because of you – workers, community members, labor leaders, public officials, environmental advocates, staff and leaders of community-based organizations, advocates, experts, and concerned residents across the country. Thank you for your work.
As we navigate the uncertainties of 2025, this work will continue, and the foundation we have built will be increasingly important.
Thanks for being part of our community.
